The Effects of Cultural Components upon English Education

Culture plays an important role in international communication because culture underlines how people learn to communicate. Communication rules act as a system of expected behavior patterns that organize interaction between people. Communication rules are both culturally and contextually bound. This study is an attempt to provide the teachers with some insights into what to teach and how to teach in order to enhance cultural understanding in their students. The class activities should be to integrate culture and language instruction. The cultural instruction can go with grammar instruction, listening and speaking practice, reading and writing instruction. When teachers use any activity for cultural instruction, it should not be a mere presentation of factual information. Instead, it should encourage the students to think about cultural attitudes, beliefs, and underlying values. In developing cultural insights, our goal should not merely to give learners a piece of information but to foster a positive attitude and an appreciation toward different peoples' way of life.
