질적 종단 연구 실행 과정 분석을 통한 방법론적 특징과 실천 전략 탐색

Exploring Methodological Characteristics and Practical Strategies of Qualitative Longitudinal Research

본 연구는 우리나라 질적 종단 연구의 실행 과정에서 나타난 방법론적 특징과 실천 전략을 탐색하고, 이를 바탕으로 방법론적 관점에서 질적 종단 연구의 의미를 논의하기 위해 수행되었다. 우리나라에서 질적 종단 연구를 수행한 연구자 9명을 섭외하여 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 질적 종단 연구의 각 실행 과정별(연구 기획, 연구진 구성, 연구참여자 표집, 자료 수집, 자료 분석, 연구 결과) 방법론적 특징과 세부 실천 전략을 도출하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 첫째, 우리나라 질적 종단 연구는 대부분 양적 종단 연구의 대체재 또는 보완재로 기획되었다는 점, 둘째, 연구 과정에서의 유연성 및 맥락적 재구성이 나타나고 있다는 점, 셋째, 고부담 연구 방법으로서 장기적, 체계적인 연구팀을 구성하였다는 점, 넷째, 자료 분석 과정에서 연구자의 경험이 활용된다는 점 등을 논의하였다. 아울러, 방법론적 정체성을 논의하여 우리나라의 질적 종단 연구를 “연구자가 연구참여자와 긴 연구 기간 동안 동행하며 반복적으로 만나고, 질적 자료의 수집, 분석, 축적의 과정을 순환적으로 수행하는 연구로서, 연구 대상의 변화와 그 변화의 맥락을 이해하는데 목적을 두는 연구”라고 정의하였다.

This study was conducted to explore the methodological characteristics and practical strategies that emerged during the implementation of qualitative longitudinal research in Korea and, based on this, to discuss the meaning of qualitative longitudinal research from a methodological perspective. We conducted interviews by recruiting 9 researchers(Research participants) who conducted qualitative longitudinal studies in Korea. As a result of the study, methodological characteristics and practical strategies were derived for each implementation process of the qualitative longitudinal study (research planning, composition of the research team, sampling of research participants, data collection, data analysis, and research results). Based on the research results, first, most qualitative longitudinal studies in Korea were planned as substitutes or supplements to quantitative longitudinal studies; second, flexibility and contextual reconstruction are achieved in the research process; and third, it is a systematic and high-stakes research method. The need to form a research team was discussed, and fourthly, the researcher’s experience was utilized during the data analysis process. In addition, by discussing methodological identity, qualitative longitudinal research is defined as “a study in which researchers accompany research participants for a long period of research, meet repeatedly, and cyclically perform the process of collecting, analyzing, and accumulating qualitative data, and aims to understand the change in the subject and the context of the change”.
