Exploring the Social Meaning and Value of Money: “Money Stories of Three Generations”

이 연구의 목적은 세대가 다른 금융주체들이 가정 내 금융교육을 바탕으로 돈의 사회적 가치와 의미를 부여하는 방식을 소설적 글쓰기로 재현하는 데 있다. 연구결과를 간략하게 제시하면 다음과 같다. 소설 속 주인공들은 자신이 처한 사회경제적 조건과 삶의 맥락에 따라 상이한 방식으로 돈을 사용하였고, 돈에 대한 사회적 의미와 가치 부여도 달랐다. 하지만 소설 속 삼대는 돈의 사용을 둘러싼 가치와 의미가 상이했음에도 불구하고, 각자의 방식으로 노동과 돈으로부터 해방을 추구하려는 유사성을 나타내었다. 결국, 돈의 사용에 대한 사회적 의미와 가치 부여 방식은 사회경제적 및 역사적 조건과 개인적 삶의 맥락에 따라 변화하였다. 하지만 돈은 노동과 돈 그 자체로부터의 해방을 통해 개인의 자아를 실현하고, 삶의 방식과 형태를 표출하는 사회적 장치이자 기제였다. 이 연구는 소설적 글쓰기로 세 세대의 금융주체들이 상이하게 돈을 다루는 금융행위와 금융태도를 서술함으로써 돈의 사회적 가치와 의미를 해명하고 확장하는 데 기여할 것이다. 또한, 이 연구의 결과는 상이한 세대의 돈의 사용에 대한 사회적 가치와 의미를 탐구함으로써 돈을 둘러싼 개인적 및 사회적 갈등과 잘 삶을 조명하고, 금융자본주의 주체가 현명한 금융 의사결정을 내리고 재무관리를 하는 데 도움을 줄 것이다.

The aim of this story is to represent through novel writing the way financial subjects of different generations give social value and meaning to money based on financial education at home. The research results are briefly presented as follows. The main characters in the novel used money in different ways depending on the socioeconomic conditions and context of their lives, and the social meaning and value assigned to money was also different. However, despite the three generations in the novel having different values and meanings surrounding the use of money, they each showed similarities in seeking liberation from labour and money in their own way. Ultimately, the social meaning and value attached to the use of money changed depending on socioeconomic and historical conditions and the context of individual life. However, money was a social apparatus and mechanism that realized the individual’s self through liberation from labour and money itself and expressed the way and form of life. This story will contribute to elucidating and expanding the social value and meaning of money by describing the financial behavior and financial attitudes of three generations of financial subjects differently handling money. In addition, the results of this story shed light on personal and social conflicts surrounding money and well-being by exploring the social values and meanings of the use of money in different generations, and help financial subjects make wise financial decisions and manage their finances in financial capitalism.
