Strategy for Translation and Post-editing Russian Verb Aspect

본 논문은 번역 작업에서 중요한 요소가 된 CAT tool과 기계번역을 활용한 포스트에디팅에 대한 것이다. CAT tool이란 Computer-assisted translation tool의 약자로서 번역사가 번역을 하는 과정에 필요한 용어집, 기존 번역 데이터, 번역 품질 체크 등의 기능을 탑재한 번역 작업 도우미 프로그램이다. 포스트에디팅이란 기계번역의 결과물을 인간이 수용가능한 수준으로 후편집하여 최종 번역문으로 탄생시키는 작업이다. 이제 CAT tool상에서 단순 번역이 아닌 포스트에디팅 작업에 대한 요구가 늘어가고 있다. 이렇게 번역 산업에서 포스트에디팅의 중요성이 커지고 있음에도 불구하고 러시아어-한국어 조합에서는 영어-한국어 조합과 비교하여 아직 한국 시장에서 널리 사용되지 않고 있는 것이 현실이다. 그러나 번역 시장에서 그 비중이 점차 높아져 가고 있어 포스트에디팅은 향후 러시아어-한국어 번역사들에게도 피할 수 없는 분야가 될 것이다. 따라서 향후 번역을 업으로 삼고자 하는 자에게 있어서 포스트에디팅 중심의 번역 작업을 필수 고려 대상이 된다. 러시아어 기계번역을 포스트에디팅할 때 고려해야 할 측면이 많지만 본고에서는 러시아어 동사 상(相)의 번역에 대한 포스트에디팅 처리에 중점을 두겠다. 또한, 이를 고려한 포스트에디팅을 실시하기 위해 CAT tool의 다양한 기능을 효과적으로 사용할 것을 제안한다.

This paper discusses the use of CAT tools and post-editing with machine translation, both of which are integral to contemporary translation practices. A CAT tool, short for Computer-assisted translation tool, is a translation assistant program equipped with functions such as terminology management, existing translation data, and translation quality checks, aiding translators in the translation process. Post-editing is the process of human editors refining machine translation output to a level acceptable for human consumption, resulting in a final translated text. There is a growing demand for post-editing tasks rather than traditional translation tasks within CAT tools. Despite the increasing importance of post-editing in the translation industry, its use in the Russian-Korean combination is not yet widespread in the Korean market compared to the English-Korean combination. However, as its significance in the translation market continues to rise, post-editing will become an inevitable field even for Russian-Korean translators in the future. Therefore, for those considering translation as a profession, post-editing tasks should be a crucial consideration. While there are many aspects to consider when post-editing Russian machine translation, this paper focuses on post-editing processing for the translation of Russian verb aspect. Additionally, it proposes effectively utilizing various functions of CAT tools to carry out post-editing.
