니체가 시간에 대해 사유하는 몇 개의 눈에 띄는 장면들이 있는데, 『반시대 적 고찰』에서 역사에 대해 사유하는 대목, 『차라투스트라』에서 정오와 영원성에 대해, 영원회귀에 대해 사유하는 대목, 그리고 우리가 이 글에서 다루고자 하는 『계보』의 기억과 미래에 관한 대목을 대표적으로 꼽을 수 있다. 그중에서도 『계 보』는 니체 후기의 저작으로서 여기에는 그의 오랜 사유의 결실이 농축되어 있 다고볼수있다.특히『계보』2부는중심주제가‘양심의가책’의기원이지만,그 에 앞서 ‘양심’을 논하는 1~3절은 니체의 인간론, 주체론, 개인론, 공동체론, 이성 론이라 할 수 있는 것을 압축적으로 포함하고 있다. 특히 니체가 여기서 등장시 키는 ‘주권적 개인’에 대한 사유는 양심과 책임, 자율과 자기 창조, 주권성과 위대 한 정치 등에 대한 윤리적·정치적 성찰로 우리를 안내한다. 우리는 이 글에서 『계보』의 이 대목이 포함하는 몇몇 모티브들을 살펴보고, 인간 주체의 형성 과정 과 공동체의 지위와 역할에 주목하며 ‘주권적 개인’을 니체의 개인/공동체론 안 에서 이해하고자 노력할 것이다. 특히 우리는 주권적 개인의 ‘자율’을 반성성과 진정성의 두 계기로 이해할 것을 제안하고, 그의 ‘주권성’을 신적인 전지전능으 로 오해하지 않도록 주의한다.
In Nietzsche’s writings there are several conspicuous scenes where he contemplates on time, such as Untimely Meditations II, where he talks about the advantages and disadvantages of history to life, Zarathustra III, where he sings of the eternity and noon, of the eternal return, and Genealogy II, where he broods over such themes as memory, promise, future and responsibility. We deal with the last of these scenes mentioned in this essay. It belongs to Nietzsche’s mature works and, though its main subject is the origin of the ‘bad conscience,’ sections 1-3 deal with the nature of ‘good conscience’ and present what might be called Nietzsche’s theory of individual and community. The thoughts of the ‘sovereign individual’ lead us to contemplate on the major themes of ethics and politics such as the nature of conscience, responsibility, autonomy, self-creation, sovereignty and even the great politics. In this essay we focus on the role of community in the constitution of human subject and situate the notorious ‘sovereign individual’ in the dynamic course of communities’ rise and fall. In particular we suggest to understand the autonomy of sovereign individual as comprising two phases of reflexivity and authenticity, and not to misunderstand his sovereignty as godlike mightiness.
