담화표지 ‘글쎄’의 발화 내용 관련 기능 간의 실현 양상

A Study on the Realization of Kulsse Related to Speech Content Function as a Discourse Marker

이 글은 구어에서 빈번하게 사용되는 담화표지 ‘글쎄‘ 의 발화 내용 관련 기능 간의 관련성 및 그 실현 특징을 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 담화표지 ‘글쎄’의 7가지 발화 내용 관련 기능 중 대다수는 [+부정] 의미 자질을 가지며 서로 일정한 관련성을 가지고 있다. 예를 들어, ‘글쎄’의 기능 중 부정적 표현 기능과 거부 표현 기능은 완곡 표현 기능과 함께 실행되어 상대방의 체면 손상을 최소화한다는 점에서 완곡한 부정(혹은 완곡한 거부)의 관련성을 지니는 것으로 보아야 한다. 또한 의혹(망설임) 표현 기능, 부정적 표현(혹은 거부 표현) 기능 그리고 반박 기능의 세 가지는 ‘의혹(망설임) < 부정적 표현(혹은 거부 표현) < 반박’의 순서로 [+부정]의 의미 자질(즉 부정하는 강도)이 증가하는 양상을 보이는데 이때 이들을 ‘부정적 강도’를 기준으로 구별해 볼 수 있다. 이 밖에 담화표지 ‘글쎄’에는 강조 기능과 응대 회피 기능과 같은 기능들이 포함되어 있는데, 강조 기능의 경우 상대방의 말에 대해 반대 또한 불만의 태도를 표출하거나 상대방과 같은 입장을 강조하는 상반되는 상황에서 모두 쓰일 수 있다는 점에서 흥미롭다. 한편 ‘글쎄’의 응대 회피 기능은 담화 참여자가 상대방의 질문이나 요청, 의견을 회피하는 데에 사용되는데 이는 화자가 담화상에서 자신의 책임을 줄이기 위해 사용하는 ‘구제 전략’의 일환이라고 볼 수 있다.

The purpose of this paper is to deal with functions and characteristics of ‘Kulsse’ related to speech content as a discourse marker. Function related to speech content of ‘Kulsse’ can be divided into seven types and the characteristics and relevance of these functions are not clearly distinguished. Most of the functions related to speech content of ‘Kulsse’ have a [-positive] meaning quality. The negative expression or refusal expression should be considered to be virtually all expressed together with the euphemism expression and the three functions, suspicious attitude, negative expression and refuting function are shown a chain of increasing the intensity of negation. The emphasis expression is used when the speaker emphasizes his or her own words, when his or her is on an opposing position or ‘Kulsse’ can also be used when the speaker agrees with the other speaker, emphasizing the same position as the other speaker. The response avoidance function of ‘Kulsse’ is used by discourse participants to avoid questions, requests, and opinions from the other speaker, which can be seen as a means to reduce the speaker's own responsibility.
