운곡은 치악산 아래에서 생애의 대부분을 자연과 함께 했지만 늘 현실에 눈을 둔 大隱의 길을 추구했다. 이는 자연을 어떻게 받아들이고 삶 속에 용해했는지를 이해할 수 있는 척도가 된다. 여기에 사상적 유연성이 더해져 자연을 대하는 운곡의 시각은 확장되어 나타나고 있다. 본고는 자연에 대한 운곡의 시각을 無欲·疏通·和樂의 공간에 방점을 두어 각 공간에서 보여주는 운곡 자연관의 특징을 밝히는 데 주안점을 두었다. 첫째는 무욕의 공간으로서의 자연이다. 자연과 접하는 운곡의 무욕은 시기별로 변화를 보여준다. 자연을 차분히 관조하면서 무욕의 경계로 나아간 후 자연의 본연성에 따른 무욕의 일상성을 거쳐 자연과 함께 절로절로의 경지에 이르는 모습을 통해 무욕적 삶과 자연을 연결하고 있다. 둘째는 疏通 공간으로서의 자연이다. 인간은 자연에게 있어 근원적으로 분리될 수 없는 관계이다. 운곡의 눈에 비친 자연 물상들은 그런 점에서 개별적 존재가 아니라 항상 소통의 대상이 되는 것이다. 운곡은 자연 물상을 통해 자연의 순리와 소통하며 조화하는 유기적 연속체임을 밝혀 物我가 일체의 걸림이 없이 조화유행 하는 疏通과 和諧로서의 자연을 말하고 있다. 셋째는 和樂 공간으로서의 자연이다. 자연을 무욕과 소통의 공간으로 인식할 경우 일정 부분 자연에 대한 미적 감흥은 절제될 수밖에 없다. 화락의 공간은 天理라는 이성적 시각에서 벗어나 자연의 美景이 자연스럽게 발동하는 정서적 미감으로 표출된다. 자연에 대한 운곡의 감응은 정제된 정서의 표출에서 출발하여 물아의 구분을 제거하여 담박한 화락의 묘미로 나아간 후 시공의 경계를 허물어 물아의 분별은 사라지고 자연과의 화락하는 세계로 나가는 특징을 보여준다.
Ungok spent most of his life with nature under Chiaksan Mountain, but always pursued the path of seclusion, who had eyes on reality. This is a measure of how to accept nature and dissolve it in life. With the addition of ideological flexibility, Ungok's view of nature is expanding. This paper focuses on revealing the characteristics of Ungok's natural view shown in each space, focusing on the space of unselfishness, communication, and enjoy together. The first is nature as a space of unselfishness. Ungok's insults in contact with nature show changes over time. After calmly contemplating nature and moving toward the boundary of unselfishness, it connects insults with nature through the daily life of unselfishness according to the nature of nature and reaching the state of being with nature by itself. The second is nature as a communication space. Humans are fundamentally inseparable relationships for nature. Natural objects reflected in Ungok's eyes are not individual beings in that respect, but are always objects of communication. Ungok revealed that it is an organic continuum that communicates and harmonizes with the order of nature through natural objects, and refers to nature as a communication and reconciliation in which objects and I are in harmony without any obstacles. The third is nature as a peace and harmony space. When nature is recognized as a space of unselfishness and communication, the aesthetic impression of nature in some part is bound to be restrained. The space of peace and harmony is expressed as an emotional aesthetic in which the beauty of nature naturally invokes, away from the rational view of natural law. Ungok's sensibility to nature begins with the expression of refined emotions, removes the distinction between objects and me, moves toward the clean beauty, breaking down the boundaries between time and space, the separation between things and me disappears and shows the characteristic of going out into a world in harmony with nature.
