한국 마도로스 가요에 관한 연구

A study on Korean Matelot Songs

이 논문은 우리나라의 선원 이미지 생성에 기여하고 있는 대중가요를 통해서 한국의 마도로스에 관한 대중가요를 분석하였다. 이 연구에서는 한국 마도로스가요의 생성 배경과 특성을 살펴보고, 일본 엔카와의 비교를 통해 이 장르의 독특성을 규명하는 것이다. 연구 방법론은 한국과 일본의 마도로스 가요를 정량적, 정성적으로 분석하였다. 구체적으로 토픽 모델링을 활용한 정량분석과 내용분석을 통한 정성적 문학적 접근을 병행하였다. 한국의 마도로스 가요는 일본 엔카보다 훨씬 더 많이 생산되었고 장기간 지속되었다. 한국 마도로스 가요는 일본에서 차용한 장르라는 한계가 있었지만, 내용 면에서는 ‘마도로스-집-노래’라는 토픽의 키워드가 도출되었다. 대중가요를 통해서 선원의 이가정성(移家庭性)과 이사회성(移社會性)을 노출하고 있다. 이에 비하여 일본은 이별과 만남을 상징하는 직업으로서 대중가요 토픽이 추출되었다. 계량적인 분석으로 인해 대중가요 한곡씩 내용분석이 이루어진 것이 아니라 134곡의 한국 마도로스 가요를 분석하였기에 내용분석이 한계가 있을 수 있다. 하지만 일본의 마도로스 가요 53곡을 병렬적으로 분석하여 한국 대중가요의 특성과 차이점을 확인할 수 있었다. 실험성이 강한 방법으로 연구분석을 하였기 때문에 향후 해양문화에 대한 다각적 접근이 이루어진다면 마도로스 가요 이해와 해양인문학 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

This paper is a study on seafarers, who play an important role in the shipping industry and are essential to ships. Through the analysis of popular songs that contributed to the creation of the image of seafarers in Korea, this research examines the background and characteristics of Korean seafaring songs, and aims to identify the unique features of this genre through a comparison with Japanese enka. The research methodology involved both quantitative and qualitative analysis of Korean and Japanese seafaring songs. Specifically, a combination of topic modeling for quantitative analysis and content analysis for qualitative literary approach was employed. It was found that Korean seafaring songs were produced in significantly larger quantities and have been sustained over a longer period compared to Japanese enka. Due to the quantitative analysis, content analysis may have limitations as it was not conducted for each individual song but for 134 Korean Matelot songs. However, by conducting parallel analysis of 53 Japanese Matelot songs, the characteristics and differences of Korean popular songs could be identified. As the research analysis was conducted using an experimental approach, it is expected to contribute to the understanding of Matelot songs and the development of maritime humanities if a multidimensional approach to maritime culture is pursued in the future.
