[서평] 민항(民港)과 군항(軍港)의 연구: 마산과 진해의 사례

Research on Civil Ports and Military Ports : the Cases of Masan and Jinhae

지방도시에 대한 연구는 개항 이후 신도시로 발전하기 시작한 항구도시들(부산‧인천‧마산‧목포‧군산)을 중심으로 이루어져 왔다. 항구도시는 항구의 성격과 운영 주체를 기준으로 삼을 때 민항과 군항으로 분류된다. 민항으로서 마산과 군항으로서 진해의 특징을 부각한 근래에 발간된 두 권의 서적은 항구도시사의 연구에 훌륭한 참고가 될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 이 서평은 우선 마산과 진해의 지리‧역사적 특징과 상호관계, 서적들을 집필하여 발간한 저자들의 연구 의도와 주로 참고한 자료들, 연구 방법과 내용을 차례로 소략할 예정이다. 이어서 이 서적들의 성격과 의미 또는 연구 가치 등을 평한 후 몇 가지 추가 연구가 필요한 사항들을 서술했다.

Researches on local cities have focused on port cities (Busan, Incheon, Masan, Mokpo, and Gunsan) that developed into new cities after the opening of ports. Port cities are classified into civil ports and military ports based on the nature of the port and the operator. Two recently published books that highlight the characteristics of Masan as a civil port and Jinhae as a military port appear to be excellent references for researches on port city history. This book review will first sequentially outline the geographical and historical characteristics and interrelationships of Masan and Jinhae, author’s research intentions, main reference materials and research methods and contents. Next, after evaluating the nature, meaning, and research value of these books, some points requiring additional research will be described.
