In this report, Hawaii is chosen to be a successful case that the mass media have an effect on the growth of the tourist industry directly. Studying how Hawaii achieved the success of the tourist industry using the mass media, this study found that Hawaii made its image of tourist attractions by thorough calculated plans. Particularly, the traditional Hawaiian dance, Hula, has tremendous effect on the tourist industry, which made the typical image of Hawaii by emphasizing on erotic mood of female dancers to male tourists and the sexual feelings of male dancers to female tourists. This paper deals with the problems that the Korean tourist industry should be concerned on the mirror of the commercialism of Hawaiian tourist industry. And this paper clarifies, for example with reproducing the concept of distorted Kisaeng culture which played a vital role in the past tourism of Korea show the way for making diversity of tourism, why Korean tourist industry should plan and develop our own culture as an event through various mass media including images and films.
