‘Care’-featuring Novels in Japan and the Issue of Emotional Inequality: Focusing on the ‘Young Carer’ Novel Akutee

本論文では、日本のケア小説を通して、現代社会の構造的問題が生み出したケアの不平等問題について考察し、特にヤング·ケアラー小説『あくてえ』を通して、若者のケアの現実について考察する。 日本のケア小説において、ケアと思いやりにつながる人間の問題と、ケアをめぐる人間の相互依存関係はどのように再現されているのか。最近のケア小説では、ジェンダーの不平等問題のほか、高齢化問題、貧富の格差問題、失業問題など、現代社会の様々な不平等状況が頻繁に文学化されている。その中でも最近、大人の代わりに家族の介護、家事などの責任を長期間背負っている青年介護者(ヤング·ケアラー)に対する社会的関心が高まり、彼らの介護の苦悩を題材にした物語も作品化されている。 『あくてえ』では、経済的な困難だけでなく、感情的に完全に消耗し、感情的な欠乏、教育や進路選択の難しさなどを経験している主人公のユメの現実が描かれている。そこで、タイトルの<あくてえ>は彼女を支えてくれる情緒的な不正義となっている状況を考察することができる。

In the present article, I analyze the ‘care’-featuring novels in Japan in order to explore the issue of social inequality caused by the structural problems of contemporary society and examine the reality of young carers, with special reference to the ‘young carer’ novel, Akutee. In care-featuring novels in Japan, how do the writers depict the relation between the issue of humans relating to care and compassion and the interdependent relationship among care-seeking people? Recent care- featuring novels address the issues of not only care-related gender inequality but also various inequality-related issues relating to aging, poverty disparity, and unemployment. Among these issues, more attention has been paid to ‘young carers’ who are responsible for caregiving and housework on behalf of adults for an extended period of time, and their struggles in caregiving have been a theme of novels. The novel Akuteedepicts the reality of Yume, the protagonist who is not only faced with economic difficulties but also emotionally exhausted, experiencing emotional deprivation and difficulties relating to education and career choices. The title of the novel, Akutee, then seems to express the emotional injustice that supports her.
