Space for taking tea means that to enjoy tea and was not spontaneously built but was an artificial space from the life and idea of taking tea by our ancestors who pursued being with nature. The space for taking tea accompanied by reading books, having a moment of meditation, painting landscapes, writing poems, watering flowers in the garden, having conversations with intimate friends, performing instruments, and burning incense seemed to be the pleasure for men of leisure at a glance, but it was the space enjoyed only by the best minds. The space for taking tea was emerged as that of creating a novelty through the harmonization of such behaviors and minds and had characteristic to create the beauty. It seemed that it was originated from the spirit of the intellectuals to make enjoying tea environment helpful for improving character. Therefore, this study investigates why writers valued and needed poem, calligraphy and painting in the space for taking tea.
