Ceramics are the art of time, and it is through the reshaping of hands that clay has the warmth of a human. The Gaozu cup, also known as the horse cup, is similar to a high legged bowl, with a bowl shaped top and a high handle at the bottom. Also known as a cup, it has a beautiful appearance, is practical and convenient, and is a typical artifact in Chinese ceramics. The inspiration for the work “The Charm of Gaozu Cup Today” comes from my journey of visiting Jingdezhen for investigation and learning. After visiting the Jingdezhen Chinese Ceramic Museum, Imperial Kiln Museum, and other places, the charm of Gaozu cup deeply attracted me, so I created this set of works. The work is based on the study of the shape of the Gaozu cup in the Yuan Dynasty Shufu Kiln. It explores and reflects on the diversity of the shapes and glaze colors of the open mouth, deep belly, foot body, and foot edge of the Gaozu Cups. A set of 13 Gaozu Cups are created, showcasing specific and distinctive images of the Gaozu Cups with contemporary characteristics.
