Investigating the Influence of Drinking and Smoking in Adult Women on Existing Teeth Count and Subjective Oral Inconvenience: A Study with Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2022)

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between alcohol consumption and smoking on the existing dental index and subjective oral discomfort of Korean women. Methods: The subjects of this study were women aged 19 to 64. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 (IBM Co. Armonk, NY, USA). The significance level of the statistical tests was set to 0.05. Results: Drinking (p < 0.001) and smoking (p = 0.011) had a statistically significant influence on the number of existing teeth, and drinking(p = 0.009) and smoking (p = 0.009) had a statistically significant influence on the discomfort of chewing. Conclusions: Programs that can provide women who are otherwise unable to obtain access smoking cessation clinics should be expanded.
