Cross-cultural adjustment is a complex challenge that is directly related to the academic performance, interpersonal relationships, and future development of international students. Although studies have examined the effects of parental autonomy support on life satisfaction, studies with Chinese students in Korea have not been fully explored. This study used a convenience sampling method to collect a sample of 506 Chinese students in Daejeon, Daegu, and Gyeongbuk regions of Korea. Findings indicated a significant positive association between parental autonomy support and life satisfaction. Further mediation effect analyses showed that achievement motivation partially mediated the relationship between parental autonomy support and life satisfaction, suggesting that increasing achievement motivation can increase the positive impact of parental support on life satisfaction. These findings not only provide a new perspective on cross-cultural theory, but also provide empirical support for enhancing life satisfaction of Chinese students in Korea.
