Jürgen Moltmann (1926-2024): Theologian of Hope

위르겐 몰트만(Jürgen Moltmann)은 주요 저서인 『희망의 신학』(Theologie der Hoffnung, 1964)과 『십자가에 달리신 하나님』(Der gekreuzigte Gott, 1972)으로 신학사에 한 획을 그었습니다. 이 책들은 여러 판본과 번역본으로 출간되었습니다. 그는 20세기 후반 국제적으로 가장 영향력 있는 독일 개신교 신학자가 되었습니다. 몰트만의 『희망의 신학』은 해방, 교회와 사회 비판적 신학, 경건에 관련한 여러 방향의 논의에 있어 전 세계적인 모델이 되었으며, 특히 여성주의 신학, 정치신학, 탈식민주의 신학, 생태-신학의 모델이 되었습니다. 또 몰트만은 1979년부터 1994년까지 개신교신학회 회장을 역임하면서 교회와 시민 참여 사이의 연결을 강화하기 위해서도 노력했습니다. 또한 많은 명예 박사 학위를 취득하였으며, 미국과 한국을 비롯한 여러 나라에서 정기적으로 강연을 하였습니다.

Jürgen Moltmann made theological history with his major works Theologie der Hoffnung (1964) and Der gekreuzigte Gott (1972), which have appeared in many editions and translations. He became the most internationally influential German Protestant theologian of the second half of the 20th century. The Theology of Hope became a model for many directions of emancipatory, church and socially critical theology and piety around the world, especially for feminist, political and post-colonial and not least ecologically oriented theologies. As chairman of the Society for Protestant Theology from 1979-1994, Moltmann endeavored to strengthen the connection between church and civil society commitments. He was also awarded many honorary doctorates and regularly gave lectures in many countries, particularly in the USA and South Korea.
