This study investigated the rationales and issues involved in developing an IT & Engineering content-based required ESP (English for Specific Purposes) course for sophomore college students in Seoul. The course combined teaching methodologies such as ESP, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Engaged Learning (EL) and Process-Oriented Writing (POW) to help equip college graduates with the ability to write and present their major-related knowledge with critical thinking skills. This course was designed to address two main aspects: (1) various contents relevant to the major area and (2) language skills, including reading, writing, discussion, communication and presentation. Aimed at enabling college students to use English effectively in practical and future industrial domains within their career fields, this course focused on various future technology contents (e.g., AI, Big Data, Cloud, Hydrogen Energy, Battery, Future Car, etc). Additionally, the program sought to improve students' autonomous learning abilities, content comprehension, and critical thinking skills connected to their major fields. By doing so, it aimed to prepare them for global industrial environments, enhancing their ability to independently understand and apply their fields’ content knowledge in future business contexts.
