자폐성장애 대학생의 대학생활 경험

College Experiences of College Students with ASD

본 연구의 목적은 국내 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 자폐성장애 대학생의 대학생활 경험을 장애학적 관점으로 살펴보고 적절한 지원이 무엇인지 탐색하는 것이다. 자료 수집을 위해 국내 4년제 대학교에 재학 중인 자폐성장애 대학생과 심층인터뷰를 진행하였다. 수집한 자료는 반복적 비교분석법을 통해 분석하고, 의미있는 내용을 중심으로 범주화하여 주제를 도출하였다. 본 연구를 통해 도출된 핵심주제는 1)편견을 재고하다, 2)다가서지 못하다, 3)성실하게 노력하다, 4)장애를 고려받지 못하다, 5)주체가 되지 못하다, 6)꿈을 향해 도약하다로 나타났다. 연구참여자는 친구관계에서 어려움을 경험하였으며, 성적에 대한 기대와 좌절을 느꼈다. 또한 대학 수업에 적응하기 위해 스스로 하려는 의지와 꾸준히 노력하는 모습을 보여주었다. 그럼에도 이들은 장애를 고려하지 않은 시험과 수업 시스템으로 어려움을 겪고 있었으며, 학내에 자폐성장애 학생에 대한 지원이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 자폐성장애 대학생들의 유의미한 대학생활을 지원하기 위해서는 장애특성을 고려한 교육환경 개선과 개별 욕구에 따른 맞춤형 지원이 필요하다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the college life experiences of college students with ASD enrolled in a four-year university in Korea from a disability studies perspective and to explore appropriate supports. To collect data, in-depth interviews were conducted with college students with ASD enrolled in a four-year university in Korea. The collected data were analyzed through the iterative comparative analysis method, and themes were derived by categorizing the meaningful content. The key themes that emerged from the study were: 1) rethinking prejudices, 2) not being able to reach out, 3) trying hard, 4) not being considered, 5) not being able to take ownership, and 6) leaping towards dreams. The participant experienced difficulties with friendships, expectations and frustration with grades. Despite their self-determination and persistent efforts to adapt to college classes, they struggled with testing and classroom systems that do not take into account their disabilities and lack of support for students with ASD. In order to support meaningful university life for students with ASD, it is necessary to improve educational environments that take into account disability characteristics and provide customized support according to individual needs.
