이 논문은 지속가능성 담론이 진화하며 2015년 이후 세계시민교육에 통합된 과정이 신자유주의적 주체성 형성에 미친 영향을 고찰한다. 2015년 이후의 지속가능성 담론과 세계시민교육 모델은 세계시민교육을 체계화하고 개인을 변화의 주체로 설정하여 세계시민으로서의 역량강화를 목표로 하지만, 결과적으로 자기 규율과 경제적 합리화라는 신자유주의 원칙을 강화하였다. 미셸 푸코의 신자유주의와 신자유주의적 주체 형성 이론을 적용하여 이 연구는 2015년 이후 세계시민교육 모델에서 강조한 표준화, 계측화, 개인의 행위주체성 강화가 자기 확신적이고 자기 규율적인 세계시민 주체를 만들어내는 과정을 분석하며 이러한 신자유주의적 주체화 과정이 개별화되고 자기중심적인 주체성을 양성하여 전 지구적인 문제 해결을 위한 집단적 노력을 약화시킬 수 있다고 주장한다.
This paper explores the impact of evolving sustainability discourse and its integration into Global Citizenship Education (GCE) since 2015 on the formation of neoliberal subjectivity. While the post-2015 sustainability discourse and GCE model aim to systematize GCE approaches and empower individuals as change-makers, they consequently reinforce the neoliberal principles of self-governance and economic rationalization. Utilizing Michel Foucault’s theories on neoliberalism and neoliberal subject formation, this study examines how the post-2015 GCE model’s emphasis on standardization, measurement, and individual agency empowerment fosters self-convincing and self-regulating global citizen subjects to maintain that this process of neoliberal subjectivization cultivates an individuated, self-centered subjectivity that may undermine collective efforts to address global challenges.
