The Relationship Between Adolescents' Grit and Future Career Achievement: The Mediating Effect of Career Adaptability

목적 본 연구는 진로구성이론 적응모형을 기반으로 청소년을 대상으로 그릿과 미래진로성취의 관계에서 진로적응성이 매개효과를 지니는지를 검증하고자 하였다. 방법 연구를 위해, 한국아동·청소년패널조사 2018의 3차년도(2020년)부터 5차년도(2022년)까지의 종단자료를 활용하였고, 응답자는 총 1,391명으로, 3차년도에는 중3이었으며, 5차년도에는 고2학년생에 해당하였다. 결과 SPSS 29.0과 PROCESS MACRO 4.3을 활용하여 통계 분석한 결과, 그릿과 미래진로성취의 관계에서 진로적응성은 매개효과를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 그릿이 높았던 학생일수록 진로영역에서 적응자원인 진로적응성에 높으며, 이는 자신이 미래에 희망하는 직업을 성취할 수 있다는 인식이 높다는 것을 의미한다. 결론 연구결과를 통해 미래 직업성취에 대한 자신감에 있어서, 그릿과 진로적응성을 향상시키는 것이 중요함을 확인하였다. 끝으로, 청소년 진로교육 및 상담장면에서 의의와 시사점, 연구의 한계를 논하였다.

Objectives This study aimed to investigate whether career adaptability mediates the relationship between grit and future career achievement among adolescents, based on the Career Construction Theory. Methods Utilizing longitudinal data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey from the 3rd year (2020) to the 5th year (2022), a total of 1,391 participants were included. The respondents were in the 3rd grade of middle school in the 3rd year, and in the 2nd grade of high school in the 5th year. Results Statistical analysis using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS MACRO v.43 revealed that career adaptability mediated the relationship between grit and future career achievement. Specifically, higher levels of grit were associated with greater career adaptability, which implies a stronger belief in one's ability to achieve desired occupations in the future. Conclusions The findings underscore the importance of enhancing grit and career adaptability in fostering confidence in future career achievement. Additionally, implications, limitations, and suggestions for youth career education and counseling contexts were discussed.
