Objective: This study examines the mediating effects of independent will on the relationship between social support and life satisfaction of unmarried South Korean mothers. Methods: Data were collected from 207 unmarried mothers who resided in community settings. For data analysis, the researchers used structural equation modeling(SEM). Results: The results are as follows. First, independent will had a direct effect on life satisfaction, while social support had an indirect effect on life satisfaction, which was mediated by independent will. Second, unmarried mothers’ life satisfaction increased as their independent will increased. Third, social support was shown to have a positive effect on life satisfaction in a mediation relationship with independent will. Conclusion: Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that integrated interventions to enhance social support and increase the level of independent will need to be implemented since these two factors have significant influences on the overall life satisfaction of unmarried South Korean mothers.
