The Effects of Teacher’s Sensitivity on Coping Strategies Regarding Young Children’s Problem Behaviors: The Mediating Effects of Emotional Regulation Competence

Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of teacher's sensitivity on coping strategies regarding young children’s problem behaviors by focusing on the mediating effect of teacher's emotional regulation ability. Methods: The participants consist of 283 child care teachers living in southern Gyeonggi Province. The data were analyzed by Pearson correlations and SEM using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results: The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, teacher's sensitivity had a direct effect on teacher’s coping strategies regarding young children’s problem behavior. Second, teacher’s sensitivity had an indirect effect on the coping strategies regarding young children’s problem behavior through teacher's emotional regulation ability. Conclusion: These findings suggest implications for future research and practice by highlighting the importance of teacher’s sensitivity and emotional regulation ability in coping strategies for teacher education programs.
