The Fear of Marriage of the Youth Who Are Aged Out of Institutions

Objective: This study aims to explore the details of the fear of marriage among the youth who aged out of institutions. Methods: Qualitative research using the focus group interview is used. There is a total of 15 participants who aged out of the child foster care institutions. Results: According to the data analysis, participants expressed their fear of marriage by the following:‘Will I be able to get married? (Will there be someone of the opposite sex who will accept me? Will the parents of my significant other accept me?).,’‘Will people look at me without prejudice? (Will my spouse look at me without prejudice? Will my spouse’s parents’look at me without prejudice?).,’‘ Will I be enough?’- Will I be able to provide a financial foundation for a family? Will I be able to carry out the role of either mother or father?.’ Conclusion: This study suggests implications of providing not only educational support on emotional and cultural foundation and family life but also economic support to overcome their fear of marriage.
