Parenting Stress Experience and Adaptation Process of Working Moms during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Objective: This study considers the parenting stress experience and adaptation process of working moms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: An in-depth interview was conducted with 11 participants and the data of the interview was analyzed based on the grounded theory method. An essential topic was derived. Results: First, central phenomenon was 'exhaustion due to excessive sense of responsibility'. Second, the causal conditions of this phenomenon included 'increased infant time and burden', 'situation where only children are neglected', 'situations that is deprived and controlled,' and 'fears of infection'. Third, contextual conditions included 'lack of family help','economic anxiety', and 'social criticism and prejudice'. Fourth, the mediation conditions were 'family support and help', 'conversation with support group'. Fifth, the actions/interaction were 'avoidable coping','individual coping','relational coping', and 'social coping'. Sixth, consequences had 'emotional stability', 'introduction of new adaptation methods', 'sustaining anxiety', and 'sustaining social anger and frustration' Seventh, in process analysis, the stress and process of working moms during the COVID-19 pendemic signify 'the stage of confusion', 'the stage of anger', 'the stage of frustration', 'the stage of negotiation', and 'the stage of adaptation'. Conclusion: The types of analysis were classified as avoidance type, active response type, and relational type. Several suggestions were presented based on the process analysis and the support plan was discussed according to the results derived from the aspect of adaptation.
