Objects: This study examines the relations among five personality factors, the relationship with parents, and career identity on college students’ career preparation behavior. This study also examines the mediating effect of the relationship with parents and career identity on the relationship between five personality factors and college students’ career preparation behavior. Methods: The research subjects consisted of 151 college students (45 males, 105 females). They completed questionnaires consisting of five personality factors, the relationship with parents, and career identity on career preparation behavior. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: The three personality factors (i.e., openness, neuroticism, and agreeableness), and communication with parents and career identity have a direct effect on college students’ career preparation behavior. Trust and communication with parents partially mediated the relationship between two personality factors (i.e., neuroticism and agreeableness) and career preparation behavior. Career identity fully mediated the relationship between three personality factors (i.e., openness, neuroticism, and agreeableness), and career preparation behavior. Conclusions: These findings have implications for future research and practice by highlighting the importance of five personality factors and career identity on career preparation behavior for college students.
