A Three-Dimensional Analysis of Wallerstein’s World System Theory

Abstract：Humanity as a whole is in an era of increasing interconnectedness and crises: on the one hand, there is a deep-rooted mindset of maximizing national interests; on the other hand, there is a proliferation of regional conflicts and local wars. Accordingly, Wallerstein’s world system theory has come back to people's attention. Tracing back to its origins: world system theory has both a critical inheritance of traditional theoretical paradigms and an abandonment and absorption of scientific research methods; outlining its ideas: analyzing the multiple and integrated research contents of world system theory can clarify its theoretical connotations and decipher the contemporary international political and economic relations; and reinterpreting its meanings: by returning to the world vision of dialectical materialism, world system theory provides certain theoretical arguments for the path of Chinese-style modernization. To sum up, the world system theory is rich in contemporary significance, and a full understanding of its ideological evolution and theoretical content through dialectical thinking will help us to strengthen our confidence and determination in promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-style modernization.

当前，世界正处于一个联系日益密切而危机层出不穷的时代：一方面，国家利益最大化的思维根深蒂固；另一方面，区域冲突及局部战争泛起。据此，沃勒斯坦世界体系理论重回人们视野。世界体系理论既有对传统理论范式的批判继承，又有对科学研究方法的扬弃吸收，剖析世界体系理论多元一体的研究内容可厘清其理论内涵、解读当代国际政治经济关系，在回归辩证唯物主义的世界视野的基础上为中国式现代化道路提供一定的学理论证。概言之，世界体系理论蕴含丰富的时代价值，以辩证思维充分认识其思想沿革和理论内容，有助于我们坚定以中国式现代化全面推进中华民族伟大复兴的信心和决心。
