Objective: In order for community children centers to provide real help to youth, they need to diversify their programs and validate the effectiveness of individual programs. This study examines the effects of a NolEe (psychology play) program intervention on the mood states of children served by community children centers. Method: A total of 59 participants, including 33 boys and 26 girls, aged 8 to 13 years (10.4±1.58), enrolled in elementary school. The play program included 12 types of traditional and creative play from around the world, and the effectiveness was measured using the Profile of Mood States Short Form (POMS-SF), a 30-item, 6-subdomain scale. Results were analyzed using descriptive statistics of subdomain scores and total mood disturbance (TMD) scores, and pre- and post-intervention differences were tested using paired t-tests. Results: Subdomain POMS-SF scores were significantly lower (p<.05) in all domains except ‘Vigor’ (p=.805), and TMD scores were also significantly lower (p<.001). Conclusion: The NolEe program can help with emotional well-being by dampening negative moods rather than reinforcing positive mood.
