During the research period, the number of urine markings made by the male and female significantly increased with growth and development each month (♂: R2 = 0.821, P = 0.000; ♀: R2 = 0.296, P = 0.001; Fig. 3A). Raised leg urination (RLU) by the male was first observed when the dog was 209 days old (September 19, 2005) and consistently increase thereafter. The female showed signs of estrus at the age of 208 days on September 30, 2005, and she mated twice with the male on October 12 and 14, 2005. Although only observed once, during this period (estrus) the female’s frequency of urination greatly increased.
