Effect of Social Support of Housing Poor Children on Problem Behavior: Focusing on Mediate Effect of Self-Esteem

The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of social support of housing poor children on problem behavior, and to analyze the mediate effect of self-esteem. For this goal, the effect of these variables on the problem behavior of children was analyzed through structural equation by classifying the factors influencing the problem behavior into social support (parent support, teacher support and peer support) and self-esteem for 118 children who live in the housing poor region in Gyeonggi-do. As a result, first, it was found that the effect which influences directly to the self esteem was teacher support and parent support among sub factors of social support while the peer support showed no influence. First, it was found that the self-esteem had negative(-) effect to the problem behavior of housing poor children. It means the higher the self-esteem the less problem behavior. Third, the social support influence just indirectly to the problem behavior through self-esteem without direct influence but mediate completely. Based on these results, this study developed the discussion, searched the practical-political plan which can strengthen the social support in order to reduce the problem behavior of housing poor children.
