A study on Evaluation of Family Friendly Support Centers and Policy Directions for Work-family Balance: Focusing on Focus Group Interview

This study is to analyze the operational status of Family Friendly Support Centers and identify problems and improvement tasks in the centers’ operations in order to figure out ways to improve the efficiency of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in the operation of its family friendly systems and find out directions to establish relations with the ministry’s relevant authorities across the country with an ultimate goal of exploring some policy and legal implications with respect to the operation of the ministry’s Family Friendly Support Centers. Focus group interview (FGI) was conducted with each of the professional activist groups of Family Friendly Centers and the spiral-type qualitative data analysis were used to analyze the FGI results. The results indicated that in terms of the awareness of improvements in the operation of Family Friendly Centers, improvements need to be made in the centers’ program operations particularly in the areas of consulting, workplace education, forums and research functions while effective ways should be sought to raise awareness of the operation of the centers. Also, It showed that regarding of the centers’ institutional improvements to promote work-family balance more effectively, the centers need to take charge of all the matters related to the assessment and support of family-friendly certification, and a system has to be set up so that the centers can manage the country’s various types of family-friendly support services in a comprehensive way.
