The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among children’s attachment to a parent, children’s self-esteem and peer relationship ability of children from single parent family. We also examine the effect of children’s attachment to the parent and self-esteem on the peer relationship ability of children. The study also intended to examine if the self-esteem of children from a single parent family had a mediating effect on the relationship between children’s attachment to the parent and children’s peer relationship ability. The participants of this study were 99 elementary school students in grades 4, 5 and 6 who lived with single parent in the north area of Gyeongbuk. The results indicate that there were significantly positive correlations among children’s attachment to the parent, children’s self-esteem and peer relationship ability of children from the single parent family. The children’s attachment to the parent from the single parent family had a significant effect on peer relationship ability and self-esteem of children, and children’s self-esteem had a significant effect on peer relationship ability. In addition, children’s self-esteem mediated the relationship between children’s attachment to the parent and children’s peer relationship ability.
