This study aimed at exploring whether the degree of adolescents’ perceived parental psychological control and parental warmth differed depending on the adolescent's gender and cultural orientation. The associations between parental psychological control and parental warmth were also examined. The participants were 701 adolescents (male; N = 373) recruited from high schools (M age = 16.56) in Seoul. Data were collected through questionnaires on collectivistic-individualistic value, parental psychological control and parental warmth reported by adolescents. The two-way ANOVA results revealed that male adolescents and adolescents who had high individualism or collectivism- individualism coexistence perceived higher psychological control of their parents than those with high collectivism or collectivism-individualism confusion. And female adolescents and adolescents who had high collectivism and collectivism-individualism coexistence perceived higher parental warmth than those who had high individualism or collectivism-individualism confusion. Regardless of the difference of the adolescent’s gender and cultural orientation, adolescents’ perceived parental psychological control was negatively associated with parental warmth.
