The purpose of this study is to find implications for public education obtained through exploration of Zhu Xi's gong(公) and its implementation methods. Through this, the study aims to expand the foundation of today's public education and seeks ways to improve it. First, the concept of Zhu Xi's gong was explored. Gong is interpreted as heavenly law and has the meaning of universal validity. Second, Zhu Xi's gong overcomes privateness and moves toward openness and communication. Gong is also the premise and method of Ren(仁), contributing to the birth, nurturing, and love for all things. In addition, Geogyeonggungri(居敬窮理) was explained as a method of gong. The conclusion of this paper presents implications for today's public education based on Zhu Xi's exploration of gong. It examined issues about the subject of public education, the purpose of public education, the relationship between private education and public education, and the curriculum and methods of public education.
