The purpose of this study was to investigate the pattern of domestic violence victimization throughout the victimized women’s lives, and to propose that depression mediates the relationship between revictimization over the life course and perpetration of child abuse by drawing on Agnew(1992)’s general strain theory. Using a representative sample of 1,184 married women with children aged under 19, we found that approximately 1 out of 10 women had experienced both childhood physical abuse by caregivers and physical violence by male partners. Second, the revictimization of domestic violence throughout the life course of women was a significant predictor of child abuse. Lastly, depression partly mediated the relationship between revictimization over the life course and child abuse. Based on these results, we provide theoretical and practical suggestions.
