The Improvement Plan of a Family Welfare Service for Advancing the Family Resilience of Families with Children with Disabilities

This study, based on the strength perspective, focused on the elements of advancing how main fosterers and families who have been fostering children with disabilities adjust themselves to the situation. This study provides practical suggestions for advancing the family resilience of families with children with disabilities. The case analysis indicates that the following elements have affected the adjustment of families with children with disabilities: families' acceptance and patience, main fosterers' religious belief, characters of children with disabilities, active use of various social resources, adjustment of family dynamics and family role control, and the family members' expressions of thanks and affection to the main fosterers. According to our research, current family welfare services for families of social welfare agencies for families with children with disabilities in the whole country do not provide various programs and attract families' concerns and active involvement. Based on the above analysis, we propose the following suggestions for advancing the family resilience of families with children with disabilities: 1) providing services that reinforce the family's belief and spirituality, 2) providing family counseling by professionals, and 3) promoting active communication between practitioners and families with children with disabilities.
