The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of ego-resilience on the relation between family relationships and suicide for alcoholics. To fulfill the aim, questionnaires were conducted on alcoholics in hospitals and clinics specializing in alcohol addiction located in seven metropolitan cities for three months beginning in September 2013. The results of the research are as follows. First, the results revealed that the path from family relationships to suicide was fully mediated by ego-resilience. The relationship between family relationships and ego-resilience was positive(β=.260, p<.001). Meanwhile, the relationship between ego-resilience and suicide was negative(β=-.351, p<.01). Second, the result of verifying the mediation effect of ego-resilience showed that ego-resilience was a full mediator between family relationships and suicide for alcoholics(Z=-.091, t(CR)=-2.063(p<.05)). Based on these results, practical implications were discussed for suicide prevention for alcoholics.
