A Study on The Personality Characteristics and Marital Conflicts of Married Men and Women from Low-income Families

The purpose of this study is to discover the background variables, personality characteristics andmarital conflict of low-income families and to discover how the marital conflicts of low-incomefamilies affects personality characteristics. I compared it with generic families to investigate the background variables, personalitycharacteristics and marital conflict of low-income families. I examined the mediator variable effectto investigate the impact of marital conflict in low-income families on personality characteristics. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, there are meaningful differences betweenthe family type, marital condition, marital maintenance period and the generic families. Thedifferences of personality characteristics between these two groups showed that the low-incomefamilies was lower than the average of generic families and the difference appearedsignificant(t=-6.326***). The difference of marital conflict between these two groups showed thatthe low-income families was higher than the average of generic families, and the differenceappeared to be significant(t=6.284***). Second, economic status has a positive influence(t=6.326***)on personality characteristics and a negative influence(t=-6.284***) on marital conflict. Thepersonality characteristics affecting economic status and the consequential marital conflict wereshown to be partial mediator effects.
