The purpose of this study was to investigate family strengths and opinions on family life and the need for healthy family service as perceived by Gunsan citizens. Using data drawn from 597 (Male=302, Female=295) Gunsan citizens over 20 years of age, the following results were found. First, more than half of the respondents showed marriage-friendly and 3-children family-friendly attitudes and perceived financial trouble as the most difficult problem followed by child rearing and education. Second, the need for child-care services provided by the Healthy Family Support Center was the highest followed by the need for a family culture program. As for family counseling, the need for couples counseling was the highest, and in family education the need for child-rearing education was the highest. Lastly, more than half of the respondents (62%) regarded their family as the strongest family type (RME). Many males in their thirties and females in their fifties perceived their family as the strongest family type, while very few males and females in their forties did. Based on these results, several implications were suggested.
