A Study on Gender Sensitivity and Equality of Housewife and Working Person for Promoting Childbirth Policy

This study aims to examine gender sensitivity, awareness of gender equality, and the level ofwomen friendly workplace environment in order to promote policies regarding reconciliation of workand family. This study was conducted to 434 subjects including housewives and working men andwomen. The analysis of the data is following. First, in terms of the level of gender sensitivity,housewives demonstrated highest score on family life. For working men and women, the highestarea was on the heterosexual relationships, and the lowest was the area of socio-culturalperspectives. There were significant difference in work life, regulations and policies, heterosexualrelationships, and socio-cultural perspectives between housewives and working population. Second,both of the housewives and working group showed highest rates on the area of educational life, andlowest rates on socio-cultural perspectives in terms of gender equality awareness. Third, regardingthe awareness on women friendly working environment, the working group had high scores infollowing order: maternity leave, family friendly programs, and formation of family friendlycommunity. Fourth, when examined for the awareness of gender equality, both housewives andworking group were found to have lower score as the age of the subjects were older. Forhousewives, higher score on gender equality were found for those with higher education. Regardingworking group, women generally had higher scores on gender equality than men, and those whoparticipated in gender awareness educational program showed higher gender equality score thanthose who did not. Lastly, in terms of gender sensitivity, both housewives and the working groupshowed inverse relationship with age, and positive relationship with education.
