The Influence of Life Incident Stress on Mid-life Crisis: Focusing on the Moderating Effects of Psychosocial Maturity

This study intends to analyze the correlation of life incident stress and psychosocial maturity in a conceptual and empirical way in order to examine theirsignificant effect on midlife crisis, an important phenomenon affecting individuals and society. This study also aims to examine the moderating effect of psychosocial maturity on midlife crisis. The main results can be summarized as follows. First, difference in midlife crisis based on demographics and variables was confirmed. Second, it was revealed that midlife crisis, life incident stress, and psychosocial maturity influenced each other. Third, the higher the level of life incident stress was, the greater the midlife crisis became. Fourth, the higher that the level of psychosocial maturity was, the less the severity of the midlife crisis was. Finally, although the life incident stress was high, psychosocial maturity played a moderating role to reduce the severity of the midlife crisis. That is, it was confirmed that psychosocial maturity played a moderating role on the effect that life incident stress had on mid-life crisis.
