The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of family satisfaction on the relation between drinking and suicide. This study conducted secondary data analysis of the Korean Welfare Panel Study for which data had been collected since 2011. The subjects were 11,368 male and female adults in 2011. The research findings are as follows. First, the results revealed that the path from drinking to the suicide was partially mediated by family relations. The relation between drinking and family relations was negative (β =-.902, p<.001). The relation between family relations and suicide was also negative(β =-.648, p<.001). Second, the result of verifying the mediating effect of family relations showed that family relations was a partial mediator between drinking and suicide for alcoholics (Z=-.584, t(CR)=-2.124(p<.05)). Based on these results, practical implications were discussed to prevent the suicide of alcoholics.
