A Study on Images of Day-care Teachers in the Media

This study is to understand the reality of day-care teachers showed a real public by analyzing images of day-care teachers appeared in the newspapers, to provide a basis for the correct image building orientation for the day-care teachers, and to increase the social awareness on the day-care teachers by establishing a preferred care-giver model, and to establish a foothold that day-care teachers can be recognized as a profession. To do this, a total of 625 articles were retrieved from six major daily newspapers in Korea for one year between October 1, 2014 and September 30, 2015, and analyzed by using content analysis method. The results of this study were as follows: Firstly, their images on the expertise of the day-care teachers were classified as three image category, that is, professionals, care givers, and non-professionals. Secondly, their images about the personality and qualities of day-care teachers have been analyzed into both positive images and negative images. Positive images were classified as love, patience, and a sense of duty. Negative images were appeared as lack of human nature, cultivation methods for human nature, abuse, neglect, information on the supervisory neglect, and improvement. Thirdly, their images about the working environment and the rights of the day-care teachers were appeared to information about social status and working conditions. In terms of the working environment, working conditions, salary, working hours, labor intensity, contents and improvement were mainly dealt with.
