The purpose of this study is to verify the longitudinal relationship between depression and self-esteem among baby-boomers by applying the autoregressive cross-lagged model. 1,395 subjects who consistently participated in the Korean Welfare Panel Study, from the 1st to 9th waves, were selected. The biennial longitudinal data were analyzed and the results are follows. First, both of the depression⟶depression and self-esteem⟶self-esteem longitudinal autoregressive pathways were significant so that the previous depression and self-esteem had a significant effect on the later depression and self-esteem, respectively. Second, in the case of depression, only one(DE_1⟶SE_3) of the longitudinal cross pathways, depression⟶self-esteem, was significant so that the previous depression had a significant effect on the later self-esteem. However, in the case of self-esteem, all of the longitudinal cross pathways of self-esteem⟶depression were significant so that the previous self-esteem had a significan effect on the later depression. Finally, the implications derived from the results, the limitations of this study, and suggestions for following studies were presented.
