This study examined the impact of marital satisfaction and family intimacy on the psychological distress of couples, with a focus on depression, hostility and somatization. The subjects of this study were 326 married people. They were assessed by self-reports on the length of marriage, income level, marital satisfaction, family intimacy, depression, hostility and somatization symptoms. The main results of a hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the income level showed a negative association with psychological distresses such as depression, hostility and somatization, while family intimacy and marital satisfaction showed a negative association with them. There were no gender differences in marital satisfaction, family intimacy, depression, hostility, and somatization. The group that had been married for 20-29 years had lower marital satisfaction than all other groups. It was also found that the income level was positively related to the level of marital satisfaction. The implications and the limitations of this study were discussed.
