The purpose of this study was to examine the actual conditions of adolescents’ internet addiction and suicidal ideation, and to define the adolescents’ relationships with their friends, parents, and teachers as social support factors in the effects of internet addiction on suicide and verify their moderating effects. To this end, a survey was conducted on teenagers in Daegu between July 20 and August 10, 2013, and 258 completed copies of a questionnaire were used for analysis. This study showed the following results. First, the surveyed adolescents scored 1.84 points in internet addiction and 1.74 points in suicidal thoughts, which were lower than the average scores. In terms of social relations, they scored 3.79 points, 3.24 points, and 3.67 points in their relationships with their friends, teachers, and parents, respectively, which were slightly higher than the average scores. Second, in terms of the effects of adolescents’ internet addiction on their suicidal ideation, their relationships with their friends showed moderating effects. On the other hand, their relationships with their parents showed negative effects on the adolescents’ suicidal ideation, but did not have moderating effects. Based on the results, this study suggested an intervention plan to prevent adolescents’ suicidal ideation.
