The Effects on Cultural Competence by Patriarchal Attribute and Multicultural Contact Experience of Korean Husbands Who have International Marriage

For this research, a survey involving 186 South Korean (hereafter, Korean) husbands who have an international marriage was conducted in order to analyze the effects on cultural competence by patriarchal attribute and multicultural contact experience of Korean husbands who have an international marriage. First, according to model 1, which includes the socio-demographic variable, monthly income (β= .227), marriage methods (β= .196), and educational level (β= .168) are factors that have statistically meaningful effects on Korean husbands’ cultural competence. Second, the independent effects of multicultural contact experience were reviewed while controlling the socio-demographic variable. Multicultural contact experience has meaningful effects on cultural competence (F= 9.473, p<.05) with an explanatory ability of 35.0%. Third, the independent effects of the patriarchal attribute variable were reviewed while controlling the socio-demographic variable and multicultural contact experience variable. The patriarchal attribute variable also has meaningful effects (F= 9.473, p<.05). However, the additional explanatory ability of the patriarchal attribute variable is only 3.3% (R2 Change=.033).
