결혼한 여성지체장애인의 삶의 경험에 대한 생애사적 고찰

A Narrative Study on the Life Experiences of Married Women with Physical Disabilities

본 연구의 목적은 결혼한 여성지체장애인들의 삶을 고찰함으로써 그들이 생애 과정에서 경험하는 다양한 욕구들을 파악하고, 이에 대한 실천적 개입 방안을 모색하고자 함이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 연구자들은 D 광역시 소재 여성장애인 관련 협회의 도움을 통해 결혼, 임신, 출산 및 양육을 경험한 5명의 지체장애여성들을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 그리고 2010년 10월부터 2011년 1월까지 심층면접을 통해 질적 자료를 수집한 후, 생애사 접근으로 분석하였다. 생애사적 접근은 여성지체장애인들의 생애과정에서 체험된 억압적 경험들을 이끌어 냄으로써 장애를 가진 여성 당사자들의 문제를 본질적으로 파악하는데 도움이 된다. 이에 연구자들은 연구 참여자들의 각 생애사를 분석한 뒤 전체 사례들을 재검토하여 4개의 주제로 통합할 수 있었다. 도출된 4개의 주제를 제시해 보면 ‘장애에 대한 편견에 스며듦’, ‘관계맺음을 통한 벽 허물기’, ‘자녀에 대한 양가감정’, ‘여성으로써의 삶에 대한 아쉬움’ 등이었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 여성지체장애인들이 자신의 장애를 수용하도록 돕는 인식개선의 노력, 사회적 관계의 활성화, 자녀양육과 관련된 서비스의 확대 실시, 그리고 올바른 양육기술을 교육하고 자녀와의 상호작용을 활성화시킬 수 있는 프로그램의 개발 등과 같은 사회복지 실천적 지침들을 제언하였다.

The aims of this study were to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of women with physical disabilities and to suggest appropriate social work interventions for fulfilling their unsolved needs. Physically impaired five women participated in in-depth interviews from October in 2010 to January in 2011. All the participants had experiences of marriage, pregnancy, delivery and child rearing. Personal narratives collected were analyzed by following the steps of constant comparative methods based on a biographical perspective. A biographical approach can help us understand their needs more intrinsically by making physically disabled women externalize their oppressed experiences in life. As a result of analysis, four major themes were extracted as the followings: ‘permeated prejudice of disability’, ‘tearing down a wall through creating relationships’, ‘ambivalence toward children’, ‘feeling a sense of frustration in life as a women’. Based on the results, several social work implications were discussed such as enhancement of awareness of disability by helping physically impaired women accept their disabilities, activation of social relationships, expansion of social services in the rearing of children, education of parenting skills, development of various programs for improving the interaction between disabled women and their children.
