A Study on the Research Approaches Utilizing the Enneagram: Focusing on Parents as Research Objects

The aim of this study is to explore the types of academic approaches that utilize the enneagram to study parents, and to emphasize the enneagram's importance. We analyzed the research subjects of 432 thesis and journal articles published in Korea that contained the enneagram as the key topic from 1999 to 2013. We divided academic approaches into seven areas: literature research, contents analysis, survey, experimental research, in-depth interview, program development, and scale development. Then we sorted the articles by subject to single out studies that analyze parents to elucidate their academic development. The results show that since 2009 the dominant trend in researches utilizing the enneagram to study parents is to conduct in experimental research, and it is continuously on the rise. Our suggestion is as follows: we admit that the number of subjects of analysis may have been accidently omitted by the provider. Secondly, sorting out the process that classified mixed research methods as miscellaneous may need reclassification in the future. Thirdly, comparing the research trend path with other countries may be of value to enlighten enneagram researchers with future subjects of research.
