An Analysis on Theses in the Field of Child Abuse

The purpose of this study is to examine research trends in the field of child abuse in Korea, by analyzing the from 1975 to 1993. For the fulfilment of this object, following questions have been set up. 1) How does the trend of research subjects? 2) How does the trend of research contents? 3) How does the trend of research methods? And the contents of this study are organized 9 topics: 1) The definition and concept of child abuse 2) The cause of child abuse 3) The present state of child abuse 4) The developmental characteristics of abused child 5) The prevention and treatment of child abuse 6) The discovery and identification of abused child 7) The perception of child abuse 8) The comparative study of child abuse 9) The field of child abuse research. The findings showed that: 1) In the first period(1975-1988), on the basis of proceeding foreign research, the tendency to introduce concepts, causes and prevention and treatment suggestion. 2) In the second period(1989-1993), considering Korean situation, the tendency to establish concepts, to search causes and to device a prevention program and treatment policy. The study closes with suggestion regarding the future study: 1) Need of the interdiciplinary research. 2) Need of developing instruments with which can identify the child abuse through social consent.
