This study examined family communication in three aspects: family function, family system, and family relationships. For this study, Amanda's family communication from 'the Glass Menagerie' was analyzed by Galvin & Brommel's theory(1986). The results showed that: 1. Amanda's family is 'enmeshed' and 'rigid'. Their family theme is to lead Laura have a boy friend. There are no family boundaries. 2. Amanda's family failed in family integration as a system. The characteristics of family systems-interdependence, wholeness, patterns, multual influence/punctuation, adaptation, openness, equifinality, hierarchical relationships-establish and maintain the relationships between people in a family. But they dysfuntioned in Amanda's family. 3. Family in developed relationships appears the characteristics-developed communication(richness, efficiency, substitutability, pacing, openness, spontaneity, evaluation), intimacy within family, and cooperative steps in decision making. But Amanda's famliy didn't appear such characteristics.
